North American  “SNJ-4”

snj 4 140x96This later version of the North American model NA-16 , model NA-88, was designated SNJ-4 for the navy.  2,400 SNJ-4 models were produced.
Improvement in the airframe, engines, armament, and controls continued throughout the war to the SNJ-6 version.
The MAM’s SNJ-4 was built delivered to the Navy in 1943, and following a brief stay in San Diego was assigned to Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands to defend against possible invasion by the Japanese.   After the war, it served with the South African Air Force.

Restoration Work
